TEDDY BEARS

The name “Teddy Bear” came about in 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear cub whilst out hunting.  A Washington Post cartoonist named Clifford Berryman popularized the little bear, and soon toy bears were eagerly sought after by the public. Teddy bears are a charming and popular subject choice of many decorative artists, and may be simply stippled in acrylic paint, painted in watercolours, pastels, pencils, oils or pen and wash, painted with long fur using a specialized brush, or in a realistic style using flat brush techniques.
