IZNIK
Iznik ware is the name given to a strikingly decorative style of Islamic pottery from the late 15th to 16th centuries. The Ottomans (a Turkish dynasty which ruled part of Europe during that period) developed a new type of ceramic ware which was inspired by Chinese design. It was a high quality glazed ceramic which featured floral scrolls and arabesques in deep cobalt blue on a pure white background. Later a lighter blue plus purple, sage green and black were introduced, and then later still brilliant red and green appeared. Common motifs were pomegranates, tulips, artichokes, peonies, carnations, with spiky or scroll-like leaves on jars, dishes and tiles
