SWEDISH

Folk art in Sweden is typified by clean, fresh designs in washes of colour with sharp outlining of motifs.  In the 18th century, traveling painters from the district of Dalarna were in demand to paint furniture and wall panels in churches, manor houses and the homes of farmers.  Two features which dominate Swedish art are the stylized Dala horses and the kurbits; a sweeping floral motif of biblical origins which appears in most designs.
