MEMORY BOX

memory boxes1

Joyce Dempsey & Kathy Prestegar have kindly volunteered to be the coordinators of the Memory Box group. They are enthused to carry on with this wonderful worthwhile cause and have many ideas to encourage painters to come back on board. For a start, at each of the sessions they will be teaching a different technique. For the Feb meeting Joyce will be teaching a teddy bear design and Kathy will demo creating backgrounds using a roller.

Remember boxes are provided as are the paints.

memory boxes 2Boxes, donated by the Visy Board Corporation are painted by society members and guests and in turn donated to local hospitals and perinatal bereavement programs. These are for distribution to parents in the event of a baby’s death for what ever reason, examples, miscarriage, stillbirth or SIDS.

These boxes are gratefully received by grieving families as a place to keep their most precious mementos of a baby they will not be taking home.Cardboard tubes are also painted to hold the naming certificates for the deceased babies. These are also forwarded to the hospitals for distribution.

bearWe need all the help we can come by because of the staggering number of boxes required which is approximately 200 per week. Unfortunately we are unable to meet this demand and concentrate on the local Melbourne area.

memory boxes 3Boxes are collected at the general meetings in Feb., April, August and Oct. and at our Open Day in June and are distributed to large hospitals like Monash and smaller hospitals like FernTree Gully. Please use your talents for this worthy cause.
