Welcome to SFDAV
The Society of Folk & Decorative Artists of Victoria is a group of folk and decorative artists who (in normal circumstances) meet every month on the 4th Sunday excluding December and January. So far in 2020 we have only been able to have one meeting - February 23rd, and then COVID restrictions impacted.
Our Mission is to create a sharing and caring Society where decorative painters of all levels, abilities and ages come together to share a mutual love of Folk and Decorative Art.
For the months of February, April, June, August, & October each year, a guest speaker or event will follow the general meeting. For the opposite months of March, May, July, September & November, workshop/s are held by visiting or member tutors.
Heleen Van der Haar sent us this photo of her latest 2020 project, a guitar adorned with beautiful roses and the sheet music for "Are You Lonesome Tonight", sort of apt for our current circumstances in Victoria. Thank you for the photos Heleen.
This beautiful geisha plate was painted by long time SFDAV member, Denise Illingworth who is keeping herself busy creating, whilst she is unable to visit her husband in care, due to Covid restrictions. Denise has been a member for many years and it was wonderful to hear from her.
If members have images they would like to share, please email them and they will be highlighted on the web page and Facebook. As we have no current workshop pieces to share, it would be great to see what members are doing, during this lockdown period.
The latest extension to COVID restrictions and the institution of phased opening up stages have sadly, probably put paid to our Society meeting face to face again this year. We look forward to a much better and brighter year in 2021.
In the meantime we will keep in touch with members via email, Folklore, website & Facebook. Please email any images or thoughts you would like to share with the members.
Stay safe and keep painting.
